Amazon UAE Launches Nationwide Packaging Recycling Initiative to Advance Circular Economy
New network of over 150 drop-off points in Dubai makes recycling e-commerce packaging convenient for customers, supporting UAE’s sustainability vision.

DUBAI, Amazon UAE (Amazon.ae) today announced the launch of a comprehensive new packaging recycling program, developed in partnership with Enviroserve, a Dubai Municipality and Ministry of Environment–certified recycler. The initiative introduces more than 150 dedicated drop-off locations across Dubai, making it easier for customers to recycle their e-commerce delivery packaging and contribute to a circular economy in the UAE.

Enhancing Convenience for Sustainable E-commerce
The program is designed to seamlessly integrate sustainability into the customer journey. It accepts all types of Amazon packaging materials, including cardboard boxes, plastic mailers, bubble-lined mailers, and packing paper. To find their nearest recycling point, customers can simply scan the QR code printed on their Amazon.ae delivery packaging. This code directs them to the Amazon Second Chance microsite, a dedicated hub providing detailed recycling guidance and information on product end-of-life programs.

Building Infrastructure for a Greener Future
“This program is a significant step in making sustainable e-commerce a practical reality for our customers in the UAE,” said Prashant Saran, Director of Operations for Amazon in the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. “By pioneering this accessible recycling infrastructure, we are not only diverting waste from landfills but also fostering the ecosystem needed for long-term, responsible consumption. This directly supports the UAE’s ambitious sustainability goals and our own Climate Pledge commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040.”

Partnership for a Tangible Environmental Impact
The collaboration with Enviroserve ensures that all collected packaging is professionally processed and kept in circulation. “Our mission is to make recycling both accessible and effective,” said Shashidhar Y S, Board Member and Managing Director at Enviroserve. “Working with a leader like Amazon allows us to amplify our impact, engaging communities at scale and preventing valuable packaging waste from ending up in landfills, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of the e-commerce sector.”

Part of a Broader Sustainability Commitment
This recycling initiative builds upon Amazon’s wider and ongoing investments in sustainability. These include using machine learning and AI-powered packaging optimization to right-size boxes and eliminate excess waste, as well as the “Ships in Product Packaging” (SIPP) program, which delivers items in their original manufacturer’s packaging without an additional Amazon box, whenever possible.
