MENA: Forecast for the Packaging Industry in 2025
Publish date: 2025-04-15

The packaging industry in the MENA region faced significant challenges in 2024, including rising material costs, sustainability mandates, energy prices, and supply chain disruptions. Despite these setbacks, the sector showed resilience through innovation and collaboration. Looking ahead to 2025, new challenges, such as geopolitical instability and climate-related issues, are projected to further test the industry's adaptability.

The MENA region is experiencing rapid economic diversification, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which are witnessing growth in manufacturing, tourism, and technology. Major events like Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup are expected to stimulate infrastructure and retail, boosting packaging demand.

Key growth drivers include:

  • FMCG Sector: Continues to be the primary driver of packaging demand due to rising incomes and health consciousness.
  • Food & Beverage Industry: Anticipated to grow by 6.5% through 2028, creating further demand for sustainable and functional packaging.
  • E-Commerce: Expected to grow over 10% by 2025, reshaping packaging needs towards more protective and visually appealing designs.
  • Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals: Rapid growth in healthcare is driving the demand for safe and compliant packaging solutions.

Sustainability remains a critical focus, with governments enacting laws to reduce plastic waste and promote recycling. Technological advancements, including digital printing and smart packaging, are transforming the industry. However, challenges such as fluctuating raw material prices, geopolitical instability, and supply chain vulnerabilities also present opportunities for localized production and innovation in sustainable packaging solutions.
